A man asked Sri Ramana Maharshi if the Sage felt for them and showed Grace. Sri Ramana replied: "You are neck-deep in water yet cry for water. It is as good as saying that one neck-deep in water feels thirsty, or a fish in water feels thirsty, or that water feels thirsty."

“What shall we say the Kingdom of God is like?” asked Jesus. “What parable shall we use to explain it? It is like this. A man takes a mustard seed, the smallest seed in the world, and plants it in the ground. After a while it grows up and becomes the biggest of all plants. It puts out such large branches that the birds come and make their nests in its shade.”

Jesus, like other great spiritual Sages, knew he could not define the Mystery he signified by using a political image from his culture and time: "kingdom of God" or, elsewhere, "kingdom of Heaven." He, like them, is using an image to say, "This is somewhat like this, and mostly this is not like this." Like the Zen Masters, he is offering us opportunity to intuit a universal significance, not political or religious in essence, that is internal and indefinable, and for that being the more important than the externalizations we claim to explain and define.
So, this most-intimate Real, whatever we call it, Jesus compares to the tiniest of all seeds becoming the largest of herbs, so large birds take refuge under its shade.
How does the tiny seed become the large herb? Is not the full-grown herb in the tiny seed? Is not the tiny seed in the full-grown herb? If so, then, this is true of the emergence of the Heart, our True Self. Wherever we appear to go to return Home, to our Heart, to God, are we not already always there? Is not there always Here?
Would it not, therefore, be true that all you are is already present to you, though to realize that you appear to take a journey and make progress? Can God make progress? But Who you truly are cannot become other than It is now, and THAT cannot unbecome what It has always been. So, does not the journey only appear for the removal of the ignorance of our True I? And is this not the True I of everyone, so THAT is not my I or your I, but simply I AM without any qualities or distinctions - or simply, not even I AM, but I?
Does not the seed emerge in silence, and without struggle? So, why all the struggle to be saved, or enlightened, or liberated? Have we not been misled? Or, possibly, we must be misled to come to see the futility of all the effortfulness? Possibly, God-as-Divine-Trickster is at work, here.
There is THAT within you that is evolving in Silence, even deeper than your awareness of It or the evolving. That is THAT within you that is not struggling to be or become Itself. Are you not fully free and in peace the moment you are not trying to be or become someone? Indeed, often we interrupt and block THAT appearing as It is through our indulgence in noise and, also, effortfulness to help It evolve. Does the kingdom of God need your help to be fully the kingdom of God? What is THAT that appears by Its own and unaided Presence, a Presence prior to appearance?
True ruminations on these questions and comments will lead you, if considered prayerfully and honestly, into a more deep surrender to the Grace-Work happening within you. Even to surrender to It is the result of Grace, for Grace is of your essential Nature - our True Self.
My advice - just say "Yes," and truly mean it. Say "Yes" to this Mystery called by many names, but THAT is nameless and, finally, without the Qualities we attribute to It. Say "Yes," means agree to let It be what It is without your interference. Say "Yes," arises from Grace-inherent and furthers Grace-manifested, when the "Yes" is a heartful agreement to relax into this process that often appears hidden and refuses to divulge any apparent guidance or knowing to you. It Itself will teach you how to trust It. It Itself will show you Its ways.
